Himmelev Gymnasium is an upper secondary school situated in Roskilde, Denmark. The school offers two upper secondary educations, “The higher Preparatory examination” (HF) and “The Gymnasium” (STX). The school has about 750 students and 80 teachers and 7 technical staff members.
For several years, Himmelev Gymnasium has conducted and participated in international activities – both as a part of Erasmus +/Comenius programmes, but also in bilateral programmes together with schools in for example Hungary,
Slovenia, Italy, Norway and Sweden. Exchange programmes are now – and have been for many years – an important part of our school profile. The international activities provide the students with experiences and essential skills, which they would not be able to achieve through the ordinary education programmes. Participating in international projects also helps the students mature and improve their educational developments.
An essential aspect of the profile of Himmelev Gymnasium is its focus on media knowledge. The school focuses on developing the students’ digital skills and knowledge to enable them to understand and explore the opportunities and challenges of our medialized world, among these the critical evaluation of information sources and ways to identify misinformation. The students learn to create digital and media content, and the school has a podcast studio, a green screen room and a great amount of high-quality recording and editing equipment that the students learn to operate. It will be a strong point for this project.
The members of the Erasmus+ group are all teachers at the school and cover a wide range of subjects, such as natural geography, biology, social science, information technology, and foreign languages. We were partners in a previous project about carbon footprint, so the teachers have greatly improved their knowledge of the main subject.
